MEGADYNE BELTS

Modifications

Process enhancements, skilled personnel, a can-do attitude and ongoing capital equipment investments enable Megadyne to stay at the fore front of new design developments and solution delivery to customers across the spectrum of industries we serve. Let a Megadyne Technical Sales and Application Engineer create the right belt to deliver optimum performance for your application.

Fabricated Covers

In many cases, the chosen belt substrate and cover material do not lend themselves to a cured homogeneous bond. In these cases, depending on the base belt type we can fabricate or extrude a cover to assist in product handling.
Cover materials available offer enhanced performance in applications where: high or low friction is desired, non-marking of product conveyed is essential, heat resistance is required, compressibility is essential for fragile product handling, wear resistance is needed for abrasive material being conveyed, or products moved must be offloaded easily without sticking.
Fabricated covers can be further modified with holes, slots, ground mpressions, grooves, pockets and other designs to assist in enhancing product handling and movement. See our modification  for additional details.

Molded Covers

Megadyne offers a wide selection of covers for every customer’s individual needs. For our molded covers, we mold uncured rubbers onto base belts, autoclave and grind them to gauge, producing a seamless cover and ensuring
a uniform structure. This creates a belt without bumps, splices, seams or hard spots, drastically reduces delamination, increasing belt life and creating uniform wear surfaces.
In addition to many industry standard materials which can be molded, BCA has developed its proprietary DuraTaqTM cover, which offers a very high coefficient of friction and low wear resistance. It's the perfect choice for applications equiring superior wear performance in difficult abrasion settings, leading to extended life and greater machine uptime performance.
Molded covers can be further modified with holes, slots, ground impressions, grooves, pockets and other designs to assist in enhancing product handling and movement. See our modification page for additional details.

Coatings

Megadyne hasdevelopedstate-of-the-artprocessesfor applyingsilicone and neoprene to a wide range of belt
substrates; both stable and elastic. Coated belts are commonly used in product transport applications where environmental conditions such as temperature would have an adverse effect on fabricated covers. Additionally, the coating of certain material substrates allows for the finished product to move across low profile conveyors where designs such as knife edge pulley transports are common. FDA silicone materials allow for use in the transport of hygienic goods and medical related parts and components. Silicone is an excellent cover material where the use of glues and adhesives are present in product manufacture.
Neoprene rubber can be formulated to provide good chemical and wear resistance, anti-static features, and self-extinguishing (UL94V) non-flammable properties for use in precision conveying applications. Our Neoprene Rubber Coatings can be applied to various substrates. Coated belts can be further modified with holes to assist in vacuum draw applications.

Engineered Belts

Advanced materials that offer strong, durable, and temperature resistant properties, coupled
with unique manufacturing processes developed at Megadyne enables us to custom engineer belts for the most demanding drives across a wide range of product handling applications. Below is a listing of materials designed to offer superior benefits for use in industries ranging from business machines, to aerospace, to medical.
Manufacturing capabilities exist to spin cast, mold, wrap, ultrasonically weld, punch, grind, slit, and vulcanize materials to create virtually any endless belt configuration you can imagine.

Banded V-Belts

Banded V-belts are made with natural rubber and SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber) which provides excellent wear resistance.

Available in B, C and D sizes, these belts have a common backing made with a cotton/ polyester - neoprene construction which enhances lateral stability and prevents the belts from turning over or coming off the drive. This belt design, which minimizes vibration, can be covered with several elastomer materials.

Our banded belts are reinforced with polyester tensile members. Kevlar® tensile member is available on request. Banded V-belts are commonly used on pulling applications downline from extrusion operations. Consult our customer support team for correct combination of section, cord type and suggested cover options for your application

Multi-Rib V-Belts

Our Multi-Rib Belts are constructed with a Polybutadiene elastomer designed to provide excellent wear resistance. These rubber belts, made in sleeve form are slit to width to meet the exact width requirement of your application.

Thermoset Polyurethane is also available in noted pitches. Consult the factory with your specific request.

Our Multi-Rib V-belts are reinforced with high strength, stable polyester. High strength Kevlar® is available on request.

Multi-Rib V-belts offer excellent tracking ability and frictional drive features.

Custom modification of these belts with special cover materials and machined surfaces is possible.

Truly Endless Polyurethane Flex Belts

Thermoplastic Polyurethane Flex (Truly Endless) Timing Belts are manufactured with helically wound cords. They are especially suited for power transmission and conveying applications with high torque loads and speed. The addition of a nylon fabric on the teeth during production enhances the running properties for specific applications and reduces noise. An extra thickness of special backing is also possible on the back of the belt, offering extra protection against abrasive or heavy products being conveyed. The tensile member cord is continuously spiraled across the width of the belt, increasing power transmission capability and breaking strength - unlike spliced belts where the cords are cut to make the splice.
  • Available from 1.5 up to 22.7 meters (4.9 to 74.4 ft.) in length.
  • Linear speeds up to 70 meters/second (230 ft./second)
  • Working Temperature -25°C/+80°C (-13°F/+176°F)

Polyurethane Belts With Integral Guides

TPU Open Ended Extruded Timing Belts with integrated tracking guides provide accurate tracking without the concerns of guide delamination, common with weld-on types. TPU Open Ended Belts with integrated guides are perfect for long center distance applications and functions where product is side loaded onto the belt, creating perpendicular forces to its direction of travel. TPU open ended extruded timing belts with integrated tracking guides can be customized with various cover options. Covers can be machine modified to meet the specific needs of the application.

Open End Polyurethane Timing Belts

Open Ended Timing Belts are linear extruded thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), reinforced with high strength reinforcement cords. Available in imperial and metric pitches and in a number of tooth shapes. Our standard product is made with polyester thermoplastic polyurethane, however polyether polyurethane is also available on request.

Our belts are made with several reinforcement options, however our standard product is made with Zinc coated steel cords.

Nylon can be added to the tooth and conveying side of the belt, providing benefits such as low noise and reduced slip stick on the tooth side and easy glide benefits on the top side for accumulation conveying applications.

Anti-static facings are also available for use in applications where an electrical charge build-up would be detrimental to the product conveyed or the application environment.

TPU belts can be cover fabricated with a wide range of elastomers and machine-modified to meet the exact need of your application. Additionally, cleats can be added to the conveying side of the belt for production separation and sortation applications.
